Nico Ali Walsh – the 21-year-old grandson of the legendart Muhammad Ali – scored a sensational knockout of Alejandro Ibarra to win his fifth professional fight.
Ali Walsh ended the fight, in Las Vegas on Saturday, with a single right hand in the first round, making a statement in the early stages of his career.
There has understandably been a fair amount of hype around Ali Walsh over the past 12 months as he began his boxing journey.
As the grandson of The Greatest, the youngster is boxing on big stages under a lot of pressure and so seemed very relieved with his triumph on Saturday.
Ali Walsh said post-fight: “This is just a testament to all the work I put in.
“Stuff like this happens when you put the work in.
“I’m bringing my grandpa back to life, and that’s why mom gets so emotional because she’s seeing her dad again and hearing her dad’s name to me.
I was setting him up with the right hand.
“I noticed his left hand was going down when he threw the jab.
“I was trying to counter it, and that’s what I did.
“I wish the best for him and his team.
“He’s a true warrior. But I just waited for that setup, and I saw it and I took advantage”
